Newsletter 4th October 2024

Dear parents and carers,

Harvest Festival

It was wonderful to see so many family and friends at our Harvest Festival yesterday.  The children led the worship beautifully and it was lovely to see the produce that they had grown at Jacobs’ Field which was used to decorate the church. Thank you for your harvest gifts which will be passed to the North Oxfordshire Foodbank.

Doors

As you may be aware, we have had contractors in this week fitting security fobs to the doors on the main school building. This means you will not be able to enter into school from the outside via the hall or the classrooms without a member of staff.  You will still be able to access the Lin Cooper Practical Skills building to drop and collect children from clubs. Arrangements for Willow Class will continue as they are now.

Pantomime trip – Thursday 5th December

Everybody (except Nursery) should have received an e-mail about this earlier in the week.  If you did not receive this, please contact the office. Nursery will open as normal on this date for those children who normally attend on a Thursday.

Flu Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations will be taking this Monday for those children for whom we have received consent.

Bikeability

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children will be taking part in Bikeability from Monday to Thursday next week. Please bring your bikes into school on Monday morning and park next to the fence on the AstroTurf. Bikes can be kept at school until the course finishes on Thursday.

Friends of Dr South’s Welcome to All Parents – Monday 14th

Please join the Friends of Dr Souths on Monday 14th October in the Lin Cooper Practical Skills Building at 845am after school drop-off to hear more about what we do to raise vital funds for the school, and how you can get involved. Hot drinks and biscuits will be served. We hope to see you there!

Phonics presentation

Do you want to find out more about how phonics is taught as a way of helping your child learn to read?  There will be a short presentation in the Lin Cooper Practical Skills Building at 3.00pm and 6.00pm on Monday 7th October.  This is most relevant for families of children in Ash and Willow classes, but is open to everybody.  Please enter through the playground.

This week we congratulated:

Willow Class: Louis, for increased confidence in the classroom this week; River, for lovely singing during our Harvest Festival performance;

Ash Class: Emily, for perseverance in Maths, handwriting and Literacy and for making good links; Alex, for using our discussions in Literacy to write detailed sentences;

Oak Class: William N, for having a clear and loud voice during singing at the Harvest Festival; Henry, for having a positive attitude to learning and for doing his best to stay on task;

Beech Class: Ellie, for incredible participation in all lessons and implementing what she has been taught in class into her work; Darcey, for always being helpful in the classroom;

Cookery: Elizabeth, for good concentration and focus when using knives and peelers.

Our Christian value for the term is courage.  Ask your child about the story Albert le Blanc.
