As a public body, the school complies with the Public Sector Equality Duty.
We believe that all our school community is precious in the sight of God, and we have a duty to ensure all have the chance to flourish. The school is committed to eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity, and consulting and involving those affected by inequality.
Amongst other things, the school’s curriculum map is cross-referenced to the protected characteristics where relevant, and references to these permeate the teaching. In addition, the school holds Equalities Week every year, when there is a direct focus on aspects of ability and disability.
The school actively embraces the guidance in Valuing All God’s Children (the Church of England’s guidance for challenging homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic bullying). This was referenced in our SIAMS inspection of 2019.
To involve those affected by inequality, the school undertakes a consultation questionnaire each year which addresses issues of equality of opportunity, and this seeks the views of both adults and children. Issues raised feed into the school development plan and are monitored by the school governors.
To summarise all this, the school has devised a comprehensive Equality Plan, published on the school website, which is updated annually, with a thorough review every four years.
