Newsletter 24th January 2025

Dear parents and carers,

Oak Class Cake Sale – Friday 24th January 2025

Thank you to Oak Class for donating cakes and to everyone who bought cakes today. A fantastic total of £105 was raised and the children have decided to donate the proceeds of their sale to Cancer Research. Well done Oak Class!

Schools Concert

Oak Class thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Sheldonian today to see the County Youth Orchestra perform and they were inspired by the musicians that they saw. Thank you to Mrs Halsey for organising this trip for the children.

Day Change for Beech Forest School

Just a reminder that Forest School for Beech Class will be on Thursday next week instead of Monday. Please send your children in with their Forest School equipment on Thursday 30th January 2025.

Youlbury Trip – Oak Class

Please ensure that you have paid your deposit to secure a place if your child would like to go to Youlbury. We need to confirm our booking on Monday 27th January, so please ensure you have indicated that you would like your child to go by this date.

Beech Class Swimming Gala

Congratulations to Adam, Charlie, Charlotte, Darcey, Emmy, Jude, Millie and Zachary who represented the school at the Kidlington Schools Swimming Gala today. The boys won the medley event and the girls came second in the freestyle medley event. Darcey won the breast stroke race and Charlie won the butterfly race. Overall, their sterling performances secured them second place in the gala – well done to you all!

Voucher payments for clubs

If you pay for clubs using childcare vouchers particularly using Computershare, please could you put your name or your child’s name on as a reference so that we can match them up to outstanding balances on ParentPay. It is also really helpful if you can send in an email to say you have made a voucher payment as then we can clear your balances on ParentPay from the vouchers you have paid in.

Soup Lunch and Talent Show – Friday 14th February

This popular event is fast approaching.  On this date, the children will have the opportunity to have a soup lunch at the Village Hall, and they will then be able to demonstrate any particular talent they have.  Mrs Halsey will be doing Quality Assurance next week, and it always a brilliant event.  If your child has a talent they wish to show, particularly something they learn out of school such as gymnastics, karate or something musical, they should prepare an item lasting about 90 seconds and talk with Mrs Halsey.

Separate information from the Friends of Dr South’s will be sent out to enable to you to book the lunch; we do hope that even if your child usually has lunch provided they will be able to take part in this fun fundraiser.

 Official opening of the school library

As you may know, we have refurbished the school library with funds raised by the Friends of Dr South’s through the Big Bike Ride. We will be having an official opening of the library on Friday 31st January at 3.10pm and Dan Levy will be cutting the ribbon on behalf of the Big Bike Ride Committee. All parents are welcome to join us for this event and to have a look at our lovely new library.

This week we congratulated:

Willow Class: Talulah, for a great first week in Willow class; Robin, for writing some brilliant sentences independently;

Ash Class: Hannah, for persevering and succeeding with subtracting 2-digit numbers; Elena, for working hard to use the sounds card to improve her spelling;

Oak Class: Finley, for being a great team player in PE and ensuring that the rules were followed; Leo for rigorous and  detailed planned in Literacy this week;

Beech Class: Elizabeth, for challenging herself in Maths; Zachary, for working extra hard to catch up after being poorly.

Our Christian value for the term is creativity.  Ask your children about the miracle of creation
