Newsletter 19th July 2024

Dear parents and carers,

Production

We do hope you enjoyed the Key Stage 2 production of “Porridge”. A huge well done to the children who all performed beautifully. Thank you to all the staff involved in preparing the children for the event and for everyone who helped with costumes and numerous props and backdrops. Thank you to the Friends of Dr South’s for providing refreshments for the afternoon performance and for the kind gifts for staff.

Thank you

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to Mr Morgan’s presentation evening in so many ways. Without the help of parents who made cakes, contributed all the drinks, sorted all the messages for the card and who spoke so eloquently, the evening would not have been possible.

String concert – Monday 22nd July, 2.30pm at school

Children in Years 3 to 5 who have been learning stringed instruments will give a short concert on Monday afternoon.  If dry, we will be outside, and if wet, we will squeeze inside.  Do come if you can.

Leavers’ Service – Tuesday 23rd July, 2.00pm in the church

All are welcome to this event where we will say goodbye to children leaving us.  It is a lovely way to finish the year, so do come if you can.

End of year disco -Tuesday 23 July, 3.30pm at the Village Hall

FODS will be organising an end-of-year disco after school on the last day of term (Tuesday 23rd July), from 3.30-5.00pm. Tickets, costing £3.50 per child, can be bought in advance on ParentPay. Tickets include a hot dog, crisps and a drink. There will also be a cash bar for adults. Please note that all children must be supervised by an adult, and remain their responsibility throughout the event. We hope to see lots of you there! Please note there is no After School Club on this date.

Pond Dipping – Saturday 20th July, 11.00am to 1.00pm

The older children in the school get the chance to go pond dipping each year, and it is always much enjoyed.  This weekend, you have the chance to see where this takes place.  Full details are on the attachment to this newsletter.

Open Session at The Jacobs’ Field – 27th/28th July, 2.30pm to 5.30pm

We are very fortunate to have use of the field for our teaching, and once each year there is an open weekend when you can see the lavender being harvested and children can do craft activities.  Money raised from the sale of lavender products goes towards the Forest School and outdoor learning teaching we do, so it would be great if lots of people were able to support this event.

Welcome back BBQ: save the date – Saturday 14 September

FODS are planning a ‘welcome back BBQ’ on Saturday 14 September from 3.30-5.30pm at the Village Hall. We will provide more information about how to pre-order food for this next term, but hope that you will save the date for this new family event.

ParentPay

As we approach the end of the year, please make sure you have cleared any outstanding amounts on ParentPay.  It is sometimes difficult to track down where you might owe money because of all the different places the debts may be, but the common ones are Meals, Late Care and 8.30 Breakfast Club.  Do please check those to make sure they are in credit.

Summer Activities
