Newsletter 6th February 2026

Dear parents and carers,

Ash Class Assembly

Well done to Ash Class who led our celebration assembly today and shared what they have been learning this term. It was lovely to hear them talk about all the exciting topics they had covered and their number bonds song is firmly stuck in my head. Thank you to Mrs Sellars, Mrs Barnhill, Mrs Brennan, Mrs Green and Mrs Halsey for preparing the assembly and the children so well.

Swimming Gala

Huge congratulations go to Alice, Anna, Chloe, Ellie, Ben, Fred, James and Sammy in Year 6 who represented Dr South’s at the Kidlington Partnership swimming gala this morning. They were praised by the organisers for their exemplary behaviour and for showing superb team spirit. We do not have the final results yet, but they should be very proud of their achievements.

Oak Class Youlbury Residential Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended this. If you missed the meeting and need any information, please email the office. I will send out a letter on Monday which will enable you to reserve a place on this trip.

Lunch orders for the Talent Show

Please remember that the deadline for ordering lunches on ParentPay for next week’s Talent Show is Monday 9 February. It would be great if you could also order food for adults by this date so that we can cater accordingly.

World Book Day costumes

In advance of World Book Day in March, the Friends of Dr South’s will be organising a costume sale on Friday 27 February. We would love any donations of dressing up costumes or accessories that your children have outgrown. Please see Mel or Rebecca if you have anything to donate. Thank you!

FODS Quiz Night, Saturday 21 March 2026

Dr South’s Quiz Night is coming up on Saturday 21 March. This is a great evening, with a fantastic quiz full of brain teasers and puzzles, as well as delicious food and drink (the dessert table is legendary…). More details will follow soon, but please put the date in your diary now!

Staffing

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Mrs Plant who will be leaving us next Friday to take up a new position after half term. Mrs Plant has worked across all the classes over the last few years and we wish her well as she moves on to pastures new. She will be sorely missed.

This week we congratulated:

Willow Class: Caitlin, for a great settled week in Willow Class; Olympia, for increased confidence during classroom discussions;

Ash Class: Antonina, for careful thought when writing independent sentences and for reflecting on her learning; Raphael, for superb mathematical reasoning when comparing equal groups;

Oak Class: Amber, for showing great effort and enthusiasm in learning when labelling the bones in the human body; Gaby, for inspiring others by creating and performing her own gymnastic routines with rolls and static poses;

Beech Class: Dima, for excellent work on area and volume; Aidan, for a fantastic imaginative transmission report.

Our Christian value for the term is Wisdom.  Ask your children about the story of  the pedlar of Swaffham

Dates for the year

We have a church service most terms which all families are welcome to attend.

Our May Day celebrations are at the end of May and this is a whole day event for families to attend if they wish.

Sports Day is for the whole school and begins at 9am and last until approximately 1pm. Parents are welcome to watch and enjoy a picnic lunch with their child after the races if they are able to.
