Dear parents and carers,
Library opening
Thank you to everyone who attended the official opening of our school library today. We would like to say a huge thank you to the FODS and to everyone involved in the Big Bike Ride for raising the funds to enable us to have this wonderful facility which has made a huge difference to the entire school community. Thank you to Dan Levy for joining us and cutting the red ribbon and declaring our library officially open.
Visit from our local MP
We were delighted to welcome our local MP, Calum Miller, to school today. Calum was interviewed by Ash Class who have been learning about leaders in the community as part of their studies. Calum also talked to the whole school about his job role and took many questions from the children. This was a great opportunity to learn about this important role. Thank you to Calum for taking time to visit and educate the children about Parliament and the work that MP’s carry out.
Term dates
Please note that the term dates on the website for 2025-2026 previously had an error as it stated that there were two weeks holiday for February half term. The amended dates are now on the website and we have only one week for half term which is 16-20th February 2026. Apologies for any confusion.
FODS Quiz Night, Saturday 15 March 2025
Dr South’s Quiz Night is coming up on Saturday 15 March. This is a great evening, with a fantastic quiz full of brain teasers and puzzles, as well as delicious food and drink (the dessert table is legendary…). More details will follow soon, but please put the date in your diary now!
FODS minutes
Thank you to everyone who came along to the FODS meeting on 17th January. It was great to see you all there and discuss all the exciting events coming up this term and beyond. Please click on the following link to see the minutes from this meeting:

100 Club draw
Thank you very much for supporting the Sparkle Fund by buying numbers for the Friends of Dr South’s 100 Club. The January draw has taken place and the winners are as follows:
1st prize: £29.63 – Bryony O’Dowda-Boswell (No 4)
2nd prize: £17.77 – Clare Haly (No 93)
3rd prize: £11.85 – Susan Sawyer (No 95)
£59.25 going to the Sparkle Fund.
You will see that the winning amounts are slightly strange; this is because we still have 21 numbers to sell. If you would like to buy more – or know someone else who would – please let us know. We will pass on the winnings at school this week. The next draw will take place on Thursday 27 February 2025.
Soup Lunch and Talent Show – Friday 14th February
This popular event is fast approaching. On this date, the children will have the opportunity to have a soup lunch at the Village Hall, and they will then be able to demonstrate any particular talent they have. Auditions have been held and there are a wide variety of talents ready to entertain the community.
Separate information from the Friends of Dr South’s which gives details of lunch and how to book it will be given on a letter attached to this week’s newsletter email. We do hope that even if your child usually has lunch provided they will be able to take part in this fun fundraiser. If you wish to order a school packed lunch, please email the office by Monday 3rd February.
This week we congratulated:
Willow Class: Remy, for creating a lovely pig after listening to the story of The Three Little Pigs; Hazel, for taking time and great care to make a beautiful Chinese lantern;
Ash Class: Thea, for increased confidence when writing her own sentences; Alexander, for some beautiful descriptive sentences about Grace Darling;
Oak Class: Lincoln, for listening well during Maths and being proud of his hard work; George, for showing ownership of his work and choosing a quiet place to focus on his writing;
Beech Class: Chloe, for working hard and challenging herself in Maths; Darcey, for working well with other members of the class.
Our Christian value for the term is creativity. Ask your children about the story of Siddhartha and the Swan
