Newsletter 23rd July 2024

Well, I come to the end of thirteen very happy years at Dr South’s and it has been an absolute joy. Thank you to you as parents for your support over this time. I have greatly appreciated your words of kindness when things have gone right and your tolerance and understanding when there have been challenges. Thank you for the exceptional gift to mark my departure – something I have wanted for a while but never been able to justify. I will think of you all every time I use it.

Open Session at The Jacobs’ Field – 27th/28th July, 2.30pm to 5.30pm
We are very fortunate to have use of the field for our teaching, and once each year there is an open weekend when you can see the lavender being harvested and children can do craft activities. Money raised from the sale of lavender products goes towards the Forest School and outdoor learning we do, so it would be great if lots of people were able to support this event.

Welcome back BBQ: save the date – Saturday 14th September
FODS are planning a ‘welcome back BBQ’ on Saturday 14th September from 3.30pm – 5.30pm at the Village Hall. We will provide more information about how to pre-order food for this next term, but hope that you will save the date for this new family event.

Change of timings
Don’t forget that from September school will start at 8.45am for Reception upwards. This is to ensure the school is aligned to the Department for Education requirements.

ParentPay
As term finishes, please make sure you have cleared any outstanding amounts on ParentPay. It is sometimes difficult to track down where you might owe money because of all the different places the debts may be, but the common ones are Meals, Late Care and 8.30 Breakfast Club. Do please check those to make sure they are in credit.

Our Christian value this term has been Perseverance. We have thought about D-Day, Jeremiah in the well, Moses and the journey to the Promised Land, Aesop’s fable of the clever crows, the Hajj pilgrimage, the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus being tempted by the devil, the story of the Gigantic Turnip, the Hare and the Tortoise and the story of Rama rescuing Sita. How many can your child remember?
