Newsletter 04 March

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to welcome Mrs Zoe Kent to the staff as our general helper.  Officially she starts after Easter, but she is working on Friday mornings until then to cover Nikki’s absence in Willow Class.  We also send all good wishes to Nikki following her operation.

Church News – Mothering Sunday 6th March

The is a Family Service at 10.30am this Sunday for Mothering Sunday at St Nicholas’ church. Come and hear the children’s choir.  Posies will be distributed.  All are welcome.

World Book Day

Thank you to all the children for joining in with the activities so enthusiastically.  Do take a moment to look at some of the competition entries in the hall – some great pictures!

Curriculum and Assessment

Thank you to all those who came to the briefing meetings yesterday; I hope that what I said made sense!  If you were not able to attend and would like a copy of the assessment sheets, please ask at the office.

Parent Consultations

These will take place for Willow (Reception only), Oak and Beech Classes on Tuesday 8th and Thursday 10th March.  Ash Class consultations will be on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th March.  Please note that children in Nursery (F2/F3) will have separate meetings after the Easter holiday.

Sport Relief – Friday 18th March

This will take place on Friday 18th March.  On the day we are encouraging the children to pay £1 to wear sport kit to school and we are also selling wrist bands in the office (costing £1 each).  During the afternoon we will be running on the village sport field if dry or having a danceathon in school if wet.

I am sure, like me, you are concerned about the traffic in the village.  I have spoken with many agencies in an attempt to make things safer, and in January there were surveys completed to establish if we qualify for a crossing patrol.  Unfortunately, they surveyors decided that we don’t, and I was also advised that we are unable to appoint our own patrol due to insurance issues.  This has rather left us at a dead-end, so if you have any suggestions how to proceed, do get in touch.  In the meantime, Fiona Forbes, who is on the Parish Council (Gloria’s mum, Year 4) has agreed to be in charge of collating information about dangerous incidents, so do let her know (via the office if needed) of any that you are aware of.  That way, we can build up a fuller picture over time.

I am delighted to let you know that our new website is now live, but with a new address,  Many thanks to Matt Nicholson for getting this sorted. I expect there will be a few glitches, so can you take a look and let Matt or me know of suggested changes.

This week we congratulated:

  • Willow Class: Ehsan, for fantastic reading;
  • Ash Class: Charlie, for being a brilliant bong tree; Max, for great independent work;
  • Oak Class: Mila, for enthusiastic reading; Maryjane, for good focus in maths;
  • Beech Class: Theo, for superb contributions in literacy and wholehearted participation in World Book Day.

Best wishes,

Huw Morgan
