Newsletter 3rd July 2026

Dear parents and carers,

Ash and Willow Production

I was extremely proud of all the children who took part in the production on Wednesday. To be able to stand on a stage and perform at such a young age is an incredible achievement and all of the children performed beautifully. Huge thanks go to all the staff who helped to prepare the children and create the scenery and props – there is a huge amount of work that goes into the production behind the scenes. Thank you to the Friends of Dr South’s for providing refreshments for the performance and for the kind gifts for staff.

Hot Weather and change of lunch menu

Next week, the temperature is due to rise again to the late twenties and early thirties, so we would like the children to come in wearing shorts and T-shirts ( preferably PE kit, but other shorts and T shirts are fine, but no football kits please). This is not a red warning, so no early pick-ups are needed and the expectation is that all children will attend all day. There will also be a change to the lunch menu next week as the catering staff are aiming to keep the staff cooler in the kitchens.
The new menu is as follows :

Monday No Change

Tuesday
Jacket Potato with Tuna or Cheese
Tuna and Cucumber Pasta Salad
With garden salad and sweetcorn

Wednesday

Jacket Potato with Tuna or Cheese
Egg Mayo or Cheese and Tomato wrap
With garden salad and sweetcorn

Thursday
Jacket Potato with Tuna and Cheese
Cheese and Tomato Pasta Salad
With garden salad and sweetcorn

Friday
No Change

 End of Year Productions

After an exciting few weeks of practising, we are greatly looking forward to our KS2 performance next Thursday 9th July, and hope you are too! The performances will be in the Village Hall at 1.30pm and 6.00pm and are free to attend.  There are restrictions on numbers, however, so please note the following:
For the afternoon performance, we do not need to make any additional arrangements.
For the evening performance, each child can have two adults attending without it being a problem.  If you would like to bring more than that, please let us know in advance so we can just make sure that we don’t go over capacity. The children need to arrive at the Village Hall between 5.30pm and 5.45pm ready for the evening performance. Refreshments will be available before 1.30pm and 6pm performance from the Friends of Dr South’s  Programmes will be available to buy, so please bring your pennies.

Forest School

There will be no Forest School sessions this week for Key Stage 2 children as they are all involved in rehearsals for the production. Ash Class will be off to The Jacobs Field on Friday as normal (weather permitting).

Willow assembly – Friday 10th July

Next Friday, Willow Class will be leading our Friday assembly and sharing their learning. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in the school hall at 2.30pm. Please come into school via Reception from 2.25pm.

Celebration Assembly

Today we congratulated Max on being awarded player’s player for the season for his football club and for receiving two trophies from his team. We also congratulated Bella for achieving her Level 7 swimming award. Leo TO shared his success of winning the 50m swimming race on the weekend and Charlie V and Sammy shared their medals for  competing in and winning an American Football tournament last weekend. Charlie also shared his cricket medal he had received for competing with his  cricket team. Thank you for sharing your achievements with us.

Transition Morning – Monday 13th July

Children will have the opportunity to experience the class arrangements for next year on the morning of 13th July from 8.45am – 10.30 am. Existing nursery children who are transferring to Reception who are not normally in on that day are welcome to join us, but it is not essential.

ParentPay

As the end of term approaches, please ensure that all balances are cleared on ParentPay accounts as we are unable to carry over any outstanding balances.

Work Experience

This week we have welcomed a former student, Florence Priest who is now in Year 10 and has returned to school and completed her work experience with us. Thank you, Floss for all your help across the classes this week.

End of Year Summer Celebration!

Tickets are now available to purchase on ParentPay for the end of year Summer Celebration which will be held on the field next to the village hall on Friday 17th July (3.30 – 5pm).

The price of £3.50 includes a pork/veggie sausage in a bun, crisps and squash. There will be an array of “garden games” and activities for everyone to get involved in, and adults can purchase drinks at the bar.

Please could we ask for a few volunteers to help with the following:

  • Set up: 2.15 – 3.15pm
  • Helping with rounders: 3.45 – 4.15pm
  • Serving drinks/food: 3.30 – 4.15pm; 4.15 – 5pm
  • Clear up: 5.00 – 5.45pm

If you could let Steph Service or Kate Shandro know what you are able to do, that would be great. Thank you so much!

Also, a big thank you so much to those who have already offered to lend us their outdoor games/toys. Any further offers would be fab! Please get in touch with Steph or Kate.
