Class Photos
We have booked a school photography company to take our class photos on the 22nd June. There will not be a whole school photo this year, but we hope to have one taken again next year. If you have not yet let us know, please email the office before this date to give permission for your child to be included in these photos or to let us know if you do not wish your child to be included in the photos.
Oxford Science Museum Trip
All the children returned to school on Wednesday afternoon full of excitement about their visit to the Oxford Science Museum. Thank you to Mrs Cornish for organising the trip and seeking funding to make this lovely trip possible.
Sports Day – Thursday 18th June
This popular event is coming up quickly, and your child has been placed in a colour-based team. We will provide a coloured vest for your child to wear over their normal PE kit. The aim is to begin the races at 9.15am, once everything is set up. We are expecting the events to last until approximately 12.30pm and family and friends are invited to stay and watch. You are invited to bring a picnic to have lunch with your child. Packed lunches are available for Reception and Ash Class, but we will need to order them in advance, so we must know by Monday 15th June if your child needs one of these. If you are not able to come and watch, your child will have lunch with their teacher, so please send them with a packed lunch and water bottle. After lunch, we will bring the children back to school and they can be collected as normal at 3.15pm, as we will have lessons in the afternoon. The Friends of Dr South’s will provide a fruit snack during the events and ask that parents bring in an item from the list below to enable this to happen:
Willow – a cucumber
Ash – melon or watermelon
Oak – punnet/bag of strawberries
Beech – cake/biscuits for adults (nut free)
One donation per family is plenty, so if you have children in more than one class, please just choose one item to donate.
If you are staying to watch your child, please take these items straight to the Village Hall or send them into school with your child on the morning of the 18th.
Celebration Assembly
Today we congratulated Bella, Alex and Elena who took part in the Launton football tournament last weekend playing for Oxford City U8 Girls and won the U8’s girls’ cup. We also celebrated with Leo TO, Benji and Charlie G who took part in a karate competition last weekend and were awarded silver and bronze medals. Leo also shared his medal that he earned at the Jamie Cassidy Football School. Well done to Lucy who achieved her stage 1 swimming award and also to Hannah who shared her certificate which she was awarded for becoming an official Beaver this week.

Well done to Alice for playing Jupiter on her oboe so beautifully for us all in assembly and to Reggie who played Colours of Day early this week during our singing assembly.
ParentPay
As the end of term approaches, please ensure that all balances are cleared on ParentPay accounts as we are unable to carry over any outstanding balances.
End of Year Productions
We are getting ready for our summer productions and we are all very excited! Over the next few weeks, letters will be coming home with more details, including costume information. Do talk with your child’s teacher if you have any questions about this. For children in Oak and Beech classes, please also check that they will be able to attend on the evening of Thursday 9th July. All the children in those classes are expected to be there, but if they cannot come for any reason, please let us know NOW, as it will affect how we organise the show.
Water Safety
Following recent national incidents and, regrettably, a tragic water-related death in Oxfordshire over the half term, please see attached a flyer from the Oxfordshire safeguarding team which gives advice to share with your children on how to stay safe around water. This week we congratulated:
Willow Class : Caitlin, for trying really hard in maths with her counting and subitising; Elliot for working super hard on his phonics in both reading and writing;
Ash Class: Abigail, for always being focused in everything she does; Nina, for beautiful writing and excellent reasoning in Maths;
Oak Class: Odin, for putting in extra effort during instrument practice, striving to improve by showing concentration and great listening; Gaby, for showing a can-do attitude to her times tables challenge, practising hard and encouraging others to do the same;
Beech Class: Dima, for thinking of excellent examples of emotive language in Literacy; Anna, for always presenting her work beautifully.
Our Christian value for the term is perseverance. In our celebration assembly today, the children learnt about perseverance in the story of the Lost and Found and they have also learnt about how Jeremiah persevered to get out of the well.
Dates for the year
We have a church service most terms which all families are welcome to attend.
Our May Day celebrations are at the end of May and this is a whole day event for families to attend if they wish.
Sports Day is for the whole school and begins at 9am and last until approximately 1pm. Parents are welcome to watch and enjoy a picnic lunch with their child after the races if they are able to.
