Dear parents and carers,
We are having some problems with our systems this week which are being caused by a national issue with the supplier. This has meant that we have been unable to send bulk emails to parents. I am hoping that by the end of the day that this may be resolved and then I will be able to send letters regarding Forest School, class meetings and the email link for the newsletter. Apologies for the late information about Forest School, but we have only just been made aware that the emails are not being sent and work is now being carried out with our IT support to fix the issue.
Class Meetings
It was good to see many of you at these. A letter with all the information given at these meetings and an overview of the curriculum being delivered this term will be sent out in a separate letter later today (hopefully).
Forest School
This starts next week for children in Years 4 and 6. You should have received a separate letter regarding this.
Friends of Dr South’s Welcome (Back) BBQ
We are really looking forward to seeing lots of you at the start-of-year BBQ on Saturday (3.30-5.30pm). Many thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered food. It will also be possible to buy sausages and burgers on the day – and other refreshments will be available. If it is really wet, we will move into the Terrace Room and Hall – but hope to be outside. As with all FODS events, children remain the responsibility of their parents throughout.
Friends of Dr South’s – First meeting of the year
The first meeting of the Friends of Dr South’s will be held on Tuesday, 23 September, at 7.45pm in the Lin Cooper Building. This meeting will provide an opportunity to:
- learn about FODS’s objectives for the coming year
• hear details of the events we are organising
• contribute your own ideas and suggestions
Refreshments will be served, and all are warmly invited to attend.
Bikeability
Well done to the Year 5 children who took part in the Bikeability course this week. They all successfully passed their course and were praised by the course leaders for the great listening and participation.
Clubs
All clubs have now been loaded onto ParentPay ready for payment. There are still spaces in after school and lunch clubs, except for cookery which has limited spaces, so please let the office know if you wish to enrol your child in a club.
This week we congratulated:
Willow Class: Amelie, for great listening during our story; Olympia, for listening to instructions well and for being a great tidier;
Ash Class: Edith, for clear explanations of buildings in London during our history lessons; Thomas, for clear imaginative writing in Literacy lessons this week;
Oak Class: Tazwar, for being quick to pick up on his learning and actively sharing his ideas in Maths; Gaby, for being a welcoming member of the class and helping our newest member to settle in;
Beech Class: Neil, for excellent sentences in Literacy about Hatshepsut; Aidan, for a mature and sensible attitude to lessons and for being a role model for his peers.
Our Christian value for the term is friendship. Ask your child about Peter denying that he knew Jesus.
Dates for the year
We have a church service most terms which all families are welcome to attend.
Our May Day celebrations are at the end of May and this is a whole day event for families to attend if they wish.
Sports Day is for the whole school and begins at 9am and last until approximately 1pm. Parents are welcome to watch and enjoy a picnic lunch with their child after the races if they are able to.
