Dear parents/carers,
The Light House Keeper and Friends
I am still in awe at the wonderful performance that was put on by our Ash and Willow class children on Wednesday. They all sang beautifully and delivered their lines superbly and it was truly a show to remember. Thank you to all the staff for all their hard work in preparing the children and organising the staging and props and costumes. Thank you to the Friends of Dr South’s for providing refreshments for the performance and for the kind gifts for staff.
Transition Morning – Monday 14th July
Children will have the opportunity to experience the class arrangements for next year on the morning of 14th July from 8.45am – 10.30 am. Existing nursery children who are transferring to Reception who are not normally in on that day are welcome to join us, but it is not essential.
End-of-Year Party – Friday 18 July
The Friends of Dr South’s will be organising a children’s disco at the Village Hall on the last day of term (Friday 18 July) from 3.30-5.00pm. Tickets – which cost £3.50 per child – can be bought in advance on ParentPay, and include a hot dog, crisps and a drink. There will also be a cash bar for adults. Please note that all children must be supervised by an adult, and remain their responsibility throughout the event. We hope to see lots of you there!
As ever, we rely on volunteers to make this event happen. Please let Mel, Rebecca or your class rep know if you are able to help on the day – setting up the hall, serving food and drinks or clearing up afterwards. Thank you.
Welcome (Back) BBQ: save the date (Saturday 13 September)
The FODS Welcome (Back) BBQ will take place on Saturday 13 September from 3.30-5.30pm at the Village Hall. We will provide more information about how to pre-order food for this next term, but hope that you will save the date for this lovely family event.
Parent’s lunch and harvest at the Jacobs’ Field – Tuesday 15th July
This Tuesday, Ash Class parents are warmly invited to join the children to see what they have been learning this term up at Jacobs’ Field. Parents will also be asked to help with the harvest and are then invited to share lunch with the children. We are keeping a close eye on the weather,but, all being well, we will aim to start at 11.15am with a short presentation from the children. If the weather forecast changes, we may start slightly earlier to avoid the heat, but I will contact parents on Monday if times need to change.
Reports
End of term reports will be sent out early next week. The report format has changed this year for Years 1 to 6 and will include attendance information and comments on reading, writing and maths alongside a general comment. It will give detail of where you child is against age related expectations for all subjects. Reception have a different style of report which details progress made against the Early Learning goals.
If you would like to discuss your child’s report, please contact your class teacher.
Beech Class Residential
The children in Beech Class have had a fabulous week in Swansea. They have been incredibly active and have completed caving, body boarding and rock climbing and as we write, are heading home exhausted. Well done to them, and many thanks to the adults who gave up their time to accompany and support them this week: Mrs Sellars, Mr Schjelde, Mrs Soanes and Miss Walsh.
Leavers’ Service – Friday 18th July 2.00pm in the church
All are welcome to this event where we will say goodbye to children leaving us. It is a lovely way to finish the year, so do come if you can.
ParentPay
The end of term is fast approaching and we still have quite a lot of outstanding payments that need to be cleared before the end of term. Please could you check your accounts to ensure that all accounts are settled before the end of the week.
This week we congratulated:
Willow Class: Gabby, for some lovely thoughts and drawings she has shared this week; Abigail, for constantly trying her best and being generally lovely to have in the classroom all of the time;
Ash Class: all of Ash Class for performing so wonderfully in their end of year production;
