Health and education go hand in hand and children who are fit and healthy are more likely to achieve their full potential at school and adopt a whole school approach to promoting the physical, social, mental and emotional well-being of all pupils, staff and the wider school community.
Every child in years 1 to 6 take part termly in Health and Fitness weeks led by a PE specialist, as well as participating in normal class PE sessions.
The main purpose of health and fitness sessions is to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future.
It is hoped that this learning will assist them make informed decisions throughout life in order to improve all aspects of their wellbeing.
Children will experience and learn about:
• Health education
• Physical education and activity
• Personal and social development
Children are encouraged to build relationships with others through team-based games and challenges, as well as learning and developing fundamental physical movement skills as any good PE curriculum would offer. This also gives the opportunity for our older children to develop leadership qualities.
