Newsletter 2nd February 2018

Dear Parents,

Beech Class Residential

On Monday we say farewell to the children in Beech class going on the residential trip. They will be joined by Mrs Watson (all week),  Miss Goater (all week), Miss Prud’homme (M, Tu) and Mrs Cornish (W, Th, F).  The weather forecast is looking good, and we hope they have a fantastic time.  The coach leaves at 8.00am, so the children need to be in school by 7.45am to sort medicines, suitcases and money.  Please make sure the children have a snack and drink for the journey – they will be given lunch on arrival.  Children not going on the trip will be working with Mrs Barnhill in the morning and Mrs Brees in the afternoon.  On the days when Mrs Cornish is away Oak Class will be taught by Mrs Halsey and Mr Morgan.  Mrs Weston and Jessica have kindly agreed to increase their hours to cover for Miss Prud’homme when she is away.  We expect the coach to return around 7.00pm on the Friday but keep your eyes open for e-mails with timing updates.

We are sorry to be saying goodbye to Mrs Weston who will be leaving us at Easter. She has worked at the school for many years and has contributed greatly to the lives of many children.  We would like to thank her for all her hard work.  Parents of children in Ash and Willow Class should have received a letter on Tuesday with details of teaching arrangements for the summer term.

Parent Consultations

These will take place on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd February for children in Year 1 upwards.  Sign-up sheets will go up next Monday; if you will not be in school because your child is on residential, please telephone the office to select a time.  Parents of children in Ash Class are particularly encouraged to make time to talk with Mrs Weston as she will not be around in the summer term; Miss Prud’homme will attend those meetings to ensure a smooth handover.  This means that parent consultations for children in Willow Class will now be on 26th/27th February and 2nd March.  Many apologies for the change in date.

Young Art Oxford

We encourage the children to enter this optional competition every other year. The detailed rules are attached, but in brief the theme is Journeys, and the children need to produce a non-collage, non-computer- generated picture up to A3 in size. This is something which your child might choose to do over half-term.  If they want to get started early, Mrs Travis is prepared to help next week during lunchtimes; please see her to book a time.  The entry fee is £2, which goes towards Cancer Research.  Entries must be in with the entry fee on the first Tuesday after the holiday (20th February).

Quiz Night – Saturday 10th March

Dr South’s ever popular quiz night returns on Saturday 10th March. Put the date in your diary now for another evening of delicious food and drink, brain twisters and teasers and much laughter. All are welcome, so do invite friends and family.

St Nicholas donations

We have had a special Thank You for the gifts donated for women and children we sent to the Domestic Abuse Services at the St Nicholas service. Thank you for your support in this area.
