Newsletter 16th October 2020

Dear parents and carers,

Parent Consultations

We are planning to hold these during the week beginning 9th November.  It is a real challenge to balance the need for infection control against the need for parents to build up relationships with teachers.  Our current plans are to have ten minute slots via Zoom for you to talk with the teacher.  If there are issues needing further discussion after this, you will be welcome to make specific appointments with teachers if needed.  We will send out booking information on Monday 2nd November asking for you to indicate timing preferences and will draw up rotas accordingly.

Medical Notes

Please remember that children must not bring to school anything containing nut products, including sandwiches with chocolate spread or pesto.  We have children in school with severe allergies, and we need to do everything possible to keep them safe.

Attached to today’s e-mail is a revised privacy notice.  We have been advised that we need to make a minor alteration to allow for the requirement for us to release information due to the Test and Trace system.  Do contact the office if you have any questions.

Next week we say goodbye to Mrs Brees.  She has been an inspiration to many children over the years, and encouraged many to high levels of achievement in sport.  If you would like to contribute to her leaving gift, please leave your donation at the school office on Monday.

At the moment we are unable to take part in sporting tournaments at other venues, but children in Years 1 to 6 will nevertheless be taking part in a Quadkids tournament next Thursday, when our scores will be ranked against other schools in the partnership. All children will need to wear a PE kit to school for this event.  Many thanks to the teachers and sports staff who have come up with an ingenious way of making sure that competitions continue.

The Friends of Dr South’s (FODS)

Last chance to buy numbers for the 100 club before the draw next week.  Please e-mail and leave the money in envelope at the school office.  The numbers are £10 each and that will gain you entry to all 10 draws this academic year with a chance to win the top prize of £25 each draw and £50 going to the Sparkle Fund.  All much easier than baking cakes!!!

This week we congratulated:

Willow Class: Edison, for amazing work with his phonics;

Ash Class: Aidan, for listening really well and showing good recall of information; Zachary, for forming his letters really well;

Oak Class: Esmee, for an excellent booklet on hill forts; Milly, for an inspirational attitude to her learning;

Beech Class: Harley, for great focus when completing assessments; Agnes H, for a superb result in her reading assessment;

Cookery: Milly B, for being a great role model to the younger chefs and for supporting them.

Our Christian Value this term is Responsibility.  Ask your child about taking responsibility for facing our challenges.  Talk about the giraffe who thought he couldn’t dance!
