Newsletter 11th October 2019

Dear parents and carers,

Pupil Collection

Please remember that we expect pupils to be collected by people listed on the recently sent out data collection sheet unless prior arrangements have been made.  If you wish somebody else to collect your child on a one-off basis, please let either then class teacher or the office know, and if you wish to set up additional adults to be able to collect without permission needing to be given on the day, please complete the attached form and return it to the office.  Also, if you wish your older child to walk home unaccompanied, please let the office know in writing.  This is to ensure that your child is kept safe.  Many thanks.

Oak Class Charity Event

This will take place next Friday at 3.00pm.  Do bring some money to spend with your child on the stalls designed and staffed by children from Oak Class.

Science Week

This will take place after half term and is being organised by Miss Hadland.  If your job involves science in any way (biology, chemical reactions, animals, medicine….) and you would be happy to come into school to talk with the children about it, please contact the office or Miss Hadland directly.  Previous visitors have included nurses, gardeners, pilots, anaesthetists, physiotherapists and chefs, so the remit is very broad!

Staffing

As you may be aware, Mrs Travis has had long-term health issues and has not been at school for some time.  Unfortunately, she will not be returning and we wish her well for the future. If you would like to contribute to a leaving gift for her, please pass it to the office.

We are pleased to welcome Miss Charlotte Brees to the school to take a lead on the development of art.

Parent Briefing – phonics and handwriting

We will be running briefing sessions on our approach to phonics and handwriting next Thursday 17thOctober at 2.45pm and 6.00pm.  Do try to come if you are able and find out how to support your child.

Illness

Thank you for your support over recent weeks when we appear to have been hit by a really nasty bug.  On one occasion we had five staff absent, so I want to particularly thank the staff who have gone over and above on many occasions.  Don’t forget if your child is vomiting due to a sickness bug, they need to be kept off school for a further 48 hours.

This week we congratulated:

  • Willow Class: Ellie, for beautiful handwriting;
  • Ash Class: Molly T, for writing a lovely acrostic poem about autumn independently; Grace, for brilliant work in maths;
  • Oak Class: Ahana, for great contributions in all lessons; Tia, for being a thoughtful member of the class;
  • Beech Class: Daisy, for great perseverance with column subtraction; Frankie, for great work when subtracting decimals;
  • Sport: Emmy, for fantastic focus all week.

Our Christian Value this term is Friendship.  Ask your child about Winnie the Pooh!
