Newsletter 9th February 2018

Dear Parents

Beech Class Residential

The children return today after a very successful and enjoyable week.  Many, many thanks to the staff who accompanied them: Mrs Watson, Miss Goater, Mrs Cornish and Miss Prud’homme.  I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of the staff at the school who give so freely of their time to help the children have a good time.  Without that, these trips would be impossible to organise.  Thank you.

Parent Consultations

The lists for these have been up all week and will now be transferred to the office.  If you have not yet managed to make an appointment, please contact the office staff to fix a time.

Forest School

This continues immediately after holidays for Year 3 (Mondays) and Year 5 (Tuesdays).

Pupils

We say goodbye today to Rihanna (Ash Class).  She and her family are moving away and we wish them well.  It has been lovely having Rihanna’s cheery smile to brighten the day!

Young Art Oxford

We encourage the children to enter this optional competition every other year.  The detailed rules were sent out last week, but in brief the theme is Journeys, and the children need to produce a non-collage, non-computer-generated picture up to A3 in size. This is something which your child might choose to do over half-term.  The entry fee is £2, which goes towards Cancer Research.  Entries must be in with the entry fee on the first Tuesday after the holiday (20th February).

Soup lunch thank you

A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the soup lunch such a success last Friday. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves (with many of them managing second and third helpings!) and we had numerous compliments from the villagers and parents who attended. Thank you to all our wonderful providers of cakes, soup and chilli; to those who helped in the kitchen and to those who came to the lunch. Together we raised £350 for the Sparkle Fund, which is currently raising money for the outdoor classroom area in Ash class.

Quiz Night – Saturday 10th March

Don’t forget to book your tickets for the much-loved Dr South’s quiz night on the 10th March. There are limited places available and tickets have already started selling, so don’t miss out! This is a great evening, with enjoyable brain teasers, wonderful food and drink and much laughter. Invite family and friends to form a team (4-8 people) or ask to be placed in one. Contact drsouthsfriends@gmail.com to book tickets.  The cost is £14.00, which includes a delicious meal.

Staffing

After the holiday we will be joined again by Miss Brandon (Willow) and Miss Carter (Ash Class) on Thursdays.  They are trainee teachers who will be returning to us to find out more about how schools work.  I am sure you will make them welcome.

Our Christian Value for the term has been Wisdom.  What can your child tell you about the theme?  Can your child remember about the wisdom of Solomon, the birth of Buddha, why a camel might struggle to fit through the eye of a needle, the words of Anna and Simeon and the wisdom of elders?

This week we congratulated:

  • Willow Class: Bella, for wonderful sums in the maths challenge;
  • Ash Class: Zoe and Tia, for excellent leaflets about Monet;
  • Oak Class: Agnes, for great hot-seating skills; William, for fantastic thinking in assembly;
  • Beech Class: Davina, for nurturing and supporting others;
  • Art Award: Leandro, for creative lettering, blending skills and superb design work;
