Newsletter 29th June 2018

Dear parents and carers,

Sport Morning – Tuesday 3rd July

All are warmly invited to our Sport Morning and family picnic.  Weather permitting, we shall begin at 9.30am on the village sports pitch. Please bring your children to school as normal and we will take the children over to the field. We aim to finish around noon.  At this point, you are invited to have a family picnic, although a packed school meal will still be available for those that wish.  As usual, please make sure your child has a water bottle in school as it is very important to keep the children hydrated during the morning.

Please apply sun cream to your child at home before coming to school.  As mentioned before, it is fine to use any brand of suncream for this.  If you would like your child to bring some to school, for allergy purposes please use the brands mentioned in a previous newsletter or ask at the office if you have a specific brand you wish to use. Hats are essential at the moment – please make sure your child’s is named.

We hope to create as much shade as possible.  If you have a gazebo you can bring for the children to use, please bring it on the day and put it up where we indicate.

If you have not attended Sports Morning before and would like more information, please ask your child’s teacher.

Sports day refreshments -Tuesday 3rd July

As in previous years, the Friends of Dr South’s will be providing juice and fruit to all the competitors during Sports Day on Tuesday to keep them hydrated and energised.  We would be very grateful for your help with this and it would be brilliant if each family could bring in a contribution of grapes, strawberries or oranges on Monday (to give us time to prepare it).  To try to have a balance of fruit, please could each class bring in the following:

  • Beech: punnet of strawberries
  • Oak: punnet of grapes
  • Ash: small bag of oranges
  • Willow: any of the above!

If you have children in more than one class, please feel free to send in just one item.  Equally, if you do not have your class’ allocated fruit, please just bring something else!

It is going to be hot on Tuesday, so it would be great to offer the children a good selection of fruit to keep them going.

The Jacobs’ Field

Parents of children in Ash Class are invited to join us at Jacobs’ Field for a session on Friday 13th July.  We would ask for parents to meet us at 11am for a tour and the opportunity to look at the work the children have completed this term. Lunch will be provided as usual for the children and you would be very welcome to bring your own picnic should you wish to join the children for lunch.

Islip Summer Fete – Saturday 7th July, 12-5pm

The Islip Summer Fete is next weekend! It should be a fun day for the whole family so do come along. Friends of Dr South’s will be running children’s entertainments and races during the afternoon. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with this. It would be great to have a few more volunteers so that no one is tied up for too long. If you could spare half an hour to help to staff the bouncy castle, demonstrate your face-painting skills, or help with the races, we would love to hear from you! Please email drsouthsfriends@gmail.com or speak to Sophie Miller (Islay, Flora, Noah and Zachary’s mum) if you can help

Staffing

Next week we welcome Georgia Swadling and Stella Cohen on work experience.  They will be based mostly in Willow and Ash Classes.

Parent Governor

The governors are a hugely important group of people who have strategic oversight of the running of the school.  Later this term we shall be holding elections for a parent governor vacancy; if you are interested in finding out what is involved, please ask an existing governor or look on the website.

Our Christian Value this term is Perseverance.  Can your child tell you the parable of the lost sheep, or the story of the paralysed man?
