Newsletter 24th November 2017

Dear Parents,

Sporting success

Well done to the children who took part in the swimming gala last week.  They swam well – the girls came second and the boys third overall.

Well done also to the cross country runners who went to Sibford School to take part in the North Oxfordshire tournament.  I was very pleased to hear that all the children represented themselves and the school brilliantly, cheering and supporting all runners and not just their friends.  Thank you and well done to them.  Many thanks also to the parent helpers who transported them.  The children ran really well, particularly bearing in mind they were against the best runners in the whole of the north of the county.  Very many congratulations to Flora (Y4) who came third overall and will progress to the next round.

Dr South’s Christmas Trees – please order by 26th November

The final date for ordering Christmas trees is almost upon us so don’t miss out and order your tree now! An order form has been sent out by email or please just send a message to [email protected]

For those who have not had one of our trees before, the premium Nordmann Fir (non-drop) trees are delivered directly from a Scottish plantation to Mill Street in Islip for collection the first weekend in December.  They will stay beautifully fresh if left outside in a bucket of water until you are ready to put them up, so don’t worry if you don’t want to start putting up Christmas decorations that early!  The trees are available from 4ft to 7ft (or taller on request). Prices: 4ft+:£25, £5ft+: £35, £6ft+: £40, 7ft+: £50.

Do tell family and friends too – we are happy to sell to anyone and all profits go to the Sparkle Fund.

St Nicholas Service

This will be led by Beech Class in the church at 2.00pm on Wednesday 6th December.  As part of the service, children are invited to give one good quality used toy or game which will be passed to children spending Christmas in women’s refuges.  If your child feels that the gift is particularly suitable for a girl or a boy, it would be helpful if it could have a label on saying this, and also what age child would enjoy the gift.  These should be brought to school on the day.  We would also like to send gifts to the women in the refuges and would be very glad to receive toiletry and sanitary items in clear plastic bags (so the refuge workers can see what they are passing on).  These can be left in the office in the run up to the service.

Science Competitions

Thank you to all the children who took part in these.  The photography competition was won by Amelie P, with 2nd and 3rd prizes awarded to William and Frankie (KS2). In KS1, the winner was Noah M,with Ethan and Solomon in 2nd and 3rd place (KS1).  The sculpture competition was won by Sylvia H, and second and third prize were awarded to Aoife and Melina (KS2). The winner in KS1 was Seth MS with Hannah T and Ruby C in 2nd and 3rd place.  Many thanks to Miss Prud’homme for organising this.

Children’s Christmas Disco Party – Friday 8th December from 5.30pm

All are warmly invited to this fun event. There will be a professional disco and games to entertain the children, and food and drink for all to keep everyone going! Please put the date in your diary now. We would be very grateful for help with serving food and drinks. If you can help, please speak to Niki (Aoife and Joe’s mum) or Sophie (Islay, Flora, Noah and Zachary’s mum) or e-mail [email protected].

Children in Need

Thank you for your support for this.  We raised £270.50.

Wintershall Trip

Johanna Stephenson is organising a trip to the Wintershall passion play next June 23rd (details on attached poster).  Transport for children at the school is being subsidised, so it works out at very good value.  If you are interested in going, please contact Johanna on (01865) 848331.
