Newsletter 20th October 2017

Dear Parents,

Playground

Thank you for the positive response to the new playground area – the children are very excited about all the changes.  Particular thanks to Gary Hicks for helping prepare the ground in readiness for the work.

Ragtex

We are having a collection of old fabric which is being collected on Wednesday 1st November.  If you have any old clothes or pairs of shoes you want to get rid of, please bring them to school by this date in big bin liners to help raise money for school.

Abacus Pupil World

Today your child (Years 1 to 6) has been given their log-in details in order for them to access Abacus Pupil World.  This will allow them to complete tasks and homework online. More information has been given with a bookmark to your child and a letter with more details for parents is included as a link.  There are some tasks already allocated for your child to complete over half term if possible.  If you have any problems accessing the site, please see Mrs Watson.  After half term we will offer one lunchtime session per week which will enable pupils to complete these tasks if they do not have internet access at home.

Parent Consultations

These will take place the week after half term, mostly on Wednesday and Thursday.  There are some other chances to meet the teacher, though – please check available timings on the lists in classrooms and sign up for something convenient.  If you would like a longer appointment, please see the teacher to arrange this at a different time.

Students

After the holiday we will welcome Ms Amy Carter and Ms Laura Brandon to Ash and Willow classes every Thursday for five weeks.  They are trainee teachers doing an early placement to become familiar with the world of school.

Friends 100 Club

The first draw for the Dr South’s 100 Club took place on Thursday 19th October and the winners were as follows: 1st Prize – Madeleine Hollywood, 2nd Prize Sylvia Pearson, 3rd Prize – Dave Johnstone, with £41.50 going to The Sparkle Fund (which is used to pay for things such as the new playground markings).

The next draw is on 30th November and there are still numbers available to buy at £10 per number, please contact Nicole Tucker (Lily, Yr 3 and Grace, Reception).

Science Week

We have a whole school science week planned for the week beginning 6th November.  If you use science in your job and are happy to come and talk to the older children about it, please contact the office.

This week we congratulated:

  • Willow Class: Grace, for some brilliant number work;
  • Ash Class: Ella, for super maths work; Ehsan, for trying hard and getting on with his work;
  • Oak Class: Alice, for a fabulous model of Hadrian’s Wall; Charlie, for great work when rounding numbers;
  • Beech Class: Davina, for great instructions on how to make a pom-pom; Melina, for great logic in maths;
  • Sport Award: Noah, for enthusiasm and encouraging others; Matti for commitment and determination;
  • Art Award: Porsha, for her diligence and beautiful art work;
