Newsletter 20th January 2017

Dear Parents,

Open Afternoon

Is your child vague about what happens at school?  Do you want to find out what they do each day?  To help you get a feel for how modern education works, we are having an open afternoon on Thursday 9th February.  You are welcome to drop into the school any time after 2.00pm and walk round the classrooms to see what goes on.  This will be followed by an open meeting at 3.30pm which all the teaching staff will attend.  There is no agenda, but you are welcome to ask questions about teaching techniques, educational rationale for certain events and anything else that comes to mind.  If there are issues you want covered which might need preparation (eg demonstration of phonic activities), please let the office know in advance.

Talent Show

Our annual Soup Lunch and Talent Show is rapidly approaching (10th February), and we need to start the preliminary work.  Due to the number of children wishing to take part, they will be restricted to one individual item in addition to any club or group items.  Mrs Halsey will be doing quality control (auditions) next week; please make sure your child is ready if they wish to be considered.  The acts need to last no longer than 90 seconds and be suitable for an all-age audience (please check words of songs carefully).  It is wonderful that so many children wish to take part, but that does have a knock-on effect on timings.

World Book Day

This annual event is fast approaching and will take place on Thursday 2nd March.  This year (following strong representation last year!) we are inviting the children to dress as a book character.  There will be a prize for each class for the most imaginative costume.  There will also be book themed events on the day.

This week we congratulated:

  • Art: Harley, for fantastic scissor control;
  • Sport: Charlie, for great participation and enormous effort;
  • Willow: Felix, for being patient and understanding, and setting a good example to the new children;
  • Ash: Ehsan, for listening and working hard in phonics; Daisy, for consistent hard work;
  • Oak: Margot, for a dramatic improvement in handwriting; Amelie, for great engagement with her learning;
  • Beech: Erfan, for improved presentation in maths; Charlie, for a courteous and respectful approach;
