Newsletter 17th May 2019

Dear parents and carers,

May Day – Friday May 24th

It is one week to May Day!  We hope that lots of you will come to watch the celebrations. A letter went out last Friday with an order form for lunch – please could you return these by Monday 20th May (even if your child is having packed lunch).

Thank you very much to everyone who has offered to provide quiches, salads and cakes. We would be very grateful for more contributions to the lunch so please do let us know at [email protected] if you are able to make or buy a quiche (or similar, e,g, Spanish omelette, savoury tart), a salad or a cake/biscuits.

We would welcome lots of donations of good quality toys, games, books, children’s clothes and plants for the stalls and raffle prizes. It is a great excuse for a clear out. These can be left by the school office. Thank you!

Big Bike Ride

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped to make the Big Bike Ride such a success last Sunday. Altogether, over 400 riders took part in the day, ranging in age from 2 to 75 and we have had fantastic feedback. One rider described it as “the most wonderful community event I have ever come across”.

It was an incredible team effort and we could not have done it without your help. Thank you to everyone who helped in the kitchen, marshalled, announced riders’ arrivals all afternoon, baked a cake or potatoes, cooked chilli, served tea and coffee, face painted for hours, manned the bouncy castle, made endless popcorn and candy floss, ticked off returning cyclists, sold raffle tickets, helped to cheer in the riders or took part in one of the rides.

Particular thanks must go to the parents and former parents on the organising committee, who gave up endless amounts of time, energy (and sleep!) to make the Big Bike Ride happen: Dan Levy, Rob Dallison, Hannah Penwarden, Alex Fraser, David Goodfellow, Lucy Thirtle, Hattie Bayly and Emma Conroy. Special thanks also to Monica Frank and her team from the Clinic on the Green, who provided the superb massages at the end of the ride.

Well done to all those who completed one of the rides, we hope that your legs have recovered now! The exact amount raised is still to be finalised and sponsorship is still coming in, but together, we have raised over £17,000 which is absolutely amazing.
