Newsletter 16th September 2016

Dear Parents,

Welcome Back BBQ – Sunday 18th September

A quick reminder about the ‘Welcome BBQ’ this Sunday, 18th September from 3-5pm at Islip Village Hall. Everyone is welcome so please come along to catch up with friends, meet new parents and enjoy the end of summer sunshine. If you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected].

New Children

We are pleased to welcome Daisy in Y2 and Molly in Nursery who have moved to the village, and also welcome our new Willow children for the term Zoe, Millie, Emily, Harriet, Amaanik, Grace, William, Nora, Kane, Ruby and Noah. Please do introduce yourselves to their parents.

We have a number of new staff members who have started this term. Mrs Paola Travis, Miss Emma Preedy, Miss Emma Goater and Mrs Sarah Robinson will be working as teaching assistants in different classes. More information and pictures can be found on the school website.

We are always pleased to welcome trainee teachers to our school. Next week on Wednesday, Ms Natalie Reidy starts her placement in Willow Class. Also, in Beech Class we have Miss James joining us on Wednesdays.

I am sure you will make all our new members of staff welcome.

Friends of Dr South’s

FODS have set up a Facebook page, which may be of use for parents who want to ask general questions. It can be found via: or just search for Friends of Dr South’s School.

Punctuality Drive

Next week we will be awarding stickers to children in school on time. Make sure your child gets one of them!

Academy Status

As you know, we are on a journey of choice which is likely to end up with a conversion to academy status next January. This is a long and time-consuming process and we do not intend to list each aspect of the conversion, but if you have questions about the process, please ask.

The website has undergone a significant redesign over the summer holiday. Do please have a look and then use it. The calendar has been updated with dates for the year, and there is a downloadable version in the Other Documents section of the website.

This week we congratulated:

  • Willow Class: Milly N, for her really mature attitude at school;
  • Ash Class: Lucas, for settling to work really well; Zach, for great role play;
  • Oak Class: Max, for some great science work; Imogen, for consistent hard work;
  • Beech Class: Gloria, for some lovely autobiographical writing; Faith, for displaying a sensible mature attitude.
