Newsletter 14th July 2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are nearly at the end of term, and there are a few variations to the usual routines. Please read this letter carefully, and check the days and dates.

Oak and Beech Class Production

Congratulations to the children for a great show. I hope you enjoyed as much as we all did. Many thanks to all the staff who helped prepare the children.

Reports

These were handed out today for the children to bring home, together with information regarding staffing for the autumn. We will post out copies to non-resident parents provided we have their details on file. If you are separated or divorced, please make sure the office is kept up to date with addresses.

Transition Morning – Monday 17th July

This will take place on Monday morning, and the children will have the chance to meet the staff they will work with in the autumn.

Sports Day refreshments – Tuesday 18th July

It is the school sports morning on Tuesday. The forecast is looking good, so we expect it to go ahead on that day. As in previous years, the Friends will be serving fruit to the competitors during the morning. We would be very grateful for donations of strawberries, oranges and grapes from parents to help with this. We would be grateful if each family would contribute one of the following:

  • Beech: punnet of strawberries;
  • Oak: punnet of grapes;
  • Ash: bag of oranges;
  • Willow: any of the above!

If you have children in more than one class, please feel free to send in just one item. Please bring items on MONDAY. They can be left at the school office or handed to Sophie or Niki. Thank you!
We will also be serving tea, coffee and biscuits to keep the spectators going!

Jacobs Field Picnic – Wednesday 19th July

Parents of children in Ash Class are encouraged to join the children for a trip to Jacob’s Field. Be there at 11 to look round – bring a picnic to enjoy yourself fully! We should be finished by about 1.00pm.

For both of the above events, a school packed lunch will be available for eligible children. Make sure you let the office know if you require one.

Leavers’ Service – Friday 21st July

We will be saying goodbye to our Year 6 children at this service to be held in church at 2.00pm on the last day of term, Friday 21st July. Do come along to bid them farewell.

End of year Friends AGM – Tuesday 18th July – 8.00pm

All are warmly invited to the end of year meeting of the Friends on Tuesday July 18th at 8pm at Farm Cottage, North Street. Please do come – especially if you have not been to a meeting before. There will be Pimms, wine and nibbles to celebrate the end of a great year. If you have any agenda items, please email them to drsouthsfriends@gmail.com.

Jacob’s Field Lavender Harvest – Saturday 22nd July

We have been invited to watch the lavender harvest and the distilling of the oil on Saturday 22nd July. If you would like to come (and also see where the children do their exciting outdoor activities), please let the office know by Thursday. We need to provide numbers in advance.

Building Works

We are having work done on the roof over the summer. Scaffolding will start to be erected tomorrow, and the works will commence on Wednesday 26th July. Due to the presence of asbestos (to be removed under strict tented conditions), there will be no access to the school site from then until 2nd August.

Finance

ParentPay is now up and running and the initial glitches are now sorted out (we believe). Please note that items such as dinners and clubs need to be paid for before use, so it is a good idea to keep money in the account and perhaps set up the facility for getting an e-mail once funds run low. Please also read the letter e-mailed home today regarding the cost of school dinners.

100 Club

You may or may not know that The Friends run a 100 Club to raise money for the school each month. We have 10 draws each academic year and thus the purchase of each number for the year is £10. Each month the money is split with 50% going to the school, 25% for first prize, 15% for second prize and 10% for third prize. The Friends are now looking to try and sell numbers for next year’s draws. Anyone over the age of 18 can purchase a ticket so please ask friends and family if they want numbers as well. If you are interested then please contact Nicole Tucker (Grace (nursery) & Lily’s (Year 2) Mum), nicolemtucker@yahoo.co.uk.

Village Fete Thank You

A big thank you to those who helped at the village fete on Saturday. The sun shone and a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all. I hope that you have all now recovered from the mammoth face painting session that took place!

This week we congratulated:

Cookery: Franck, for common sense in the kitchen;
