Newsletter 13th January 2017

Dear Parents,

Talent Show

Our annual Soup Lunch and Talent Show is rapidly approaching (10th February), and we need to start the preliminary work.  Due to the number of children wishing to take part, they will be restricted to one individual item in addition to any club or group items.  Mrs Halsey will be doing quality control (auditions) in the week beginning 23rd January; please make sure your child is ready if they wish to be considered.  The acts need to last no longer than 90 seconds and be suitable for an all-age audience (please check words of songs carefully).  It is wonderful that so many children wish to take part, but that does have a knock-on effect on timings.

Following the school’s conversion to academy status, Katie and Chrissy in the office are getting to grips with the new finance and administrative system – many thanks to them for their hard work with this.  Please remember to make all cheques payable to Dr South’s Primary School.  Now we have new bank accounts, we are investigating online payment systems and hope to update you about this in the near future.  We are also looking at creating a timeline of expected payments so you are aware of when money is due.

We recently had an advisory visit (at our request) to help us strike a good balance between being an open and welcoming school and having robust security arrangements.  One suggestion was to restrict parental access to the inside of the buildings at the start and end of the day.  Please therefore make sure that you always enter via the school office once you have completed drop-off.  Also, if you need to enter classrooms or cloakrooms for any reason after school, again, please go via the office.  That way, we can ensure that the children are safe and the buildings secure.

Don’t forget that the closing date for September admission to Reception (F1) is this Sunday 15th January.  Do double check to make sure you have done this, as all applications after this date are automatically considered later in the year and by law we cannot include them in the first round of allocations.

This week we congratulated:

  • Art: Islay, for exemplary behaviour;
  • Sport: Charlie, for total focus and dedication;
  • Willow: Tom, for being a great role model in the classroom;
  • Ash: Florence, for enthusiastic dancing; William, for great role play in literacy;
  • Oak: Leandro, for consistent hard work and a great attitude; Ruby, for amazing maths and a great commitment to learning;
  • Beech: Evie, for involving younger children in playground games; Sapphire, for superb concentration in maths.

Our Christian value for the term is Truthfulness.  Ask your child about Jacob and Esau and the stealing of the birthright.  Ask also about what Buddha saw.
