Newsletter 12th October 2018

Dear parents and carers,

100 Club

This is a reminder that we have numbers for sale for the 100 Club.  This is a new academic year and so if you have held numbers previously you need to re-purchase them in order to stay in the draws.  As with previous years the numbers are £10 each for the whole year and this means that if you will be entered into each of the 10 draws for the academic year.  If we manage to sell all 100 numbers it means that the Sparkle Fund receives £50 per month over the academic year to help fund enrichment for all our children (art resources, additional books etc) and the prizes for number holders are as follows: 1st Prize £25; 2nd Prize £15; 3rd Prize £10.  If you would like a chance to win from the first draw on 18th October, then please contact Nicole Tucker (Lily Y4/Grace Y1).

Christmas Cards – order by 19th October

The children have been busily designing Christmas pictures this week. Each child’s design will be printed onto high quality A5 cards, with their name and date of birth printed on the back. These will be available to buy in packs of 12 and make a lovely personalised card to send to family members and friends.  The children’s designs will also be available to buy as packs of gift tags, wrapping paper and thank you postcards (brilliant for those post-Christmas thank you letters!).  Every pack sold raises money for the Sparkle Fund, which pays for activities and resources to enhance the children’s school experience, such as the new laptops and the visiting science workshop after half term week.  The children will be bringing home or have brought home their designs this week, with the order form on the back. Please look out for them and return them, with completed order forms, by next FRIDAY 19th October so that we can ensure the printed cards arrive by the first week in December.  Please check over your child’s design before you return the form to make sure that any rubbed out parts are properly erased. Please also check that no crucial element of your child’s design is less than 1cm from the edge of the page as this will be lost during the printing process.  If any critical elements of your child’s design are too close to the edge of the page, you may be able to use tippex and pens to redo the design slightly, avoiding the edge. Please do not stick anything onto the page as this will prevent it being printed.

Science Week

This popular event is coming up soon and will be the week beginning 29th October (the week after half term).  We will be running many exciting events across the school and would love it if parents working in any areas of science (eg medicine, research, animal work, space exploration) could come and talk about what they do.  Talk to your child’s teacher if you are able to help in this way.  We will also be running after school clubs every day except Wednesday.  If your child would like to take part, please contact the office (e-mail is fine) with possible days in order of preference.  There will be no charge for these, but we will be asking for donations at the end of each session to cover the costs of materials.  Do be quick as decisions on days will be made next Monday 15th October and communicated before the holiday.

Islip Carol Concert

All children aged 7 and up are invited to sing in the carol service at 6pm on Sunday 16th December.  There will be rehearsals at 4pm on Sundays from 11th November to 9th December.  If you are interested, please contact [email protected] for more details.

Don’t forget we finish next Friday 19th for half term and return on Monday 29th October.
