Newsletter 11th September 2020

11th September 2020

Dear parents and carers,

Thank you for helping establish the new routine for drop off and collection.  Overall, things are working smoothly, but we will, of course, tweak the arrangements if we need to.  Please make sure you come right through to the playground and spread out to avoid congestion building up at the gate.  There is no problem with being on the school premises as long as you maintain appropriate social distance.  Please remember that only parents of children in Reception and Nursery should go beyond the green barrier – the rest should wait somewhere visible and the class teacher will send your child out.

Hot dinners start again on Monday.  The providers expect to maintain continuity of service, but have asked us to let you know that if they have sudden staff shortage due to isolation of isolation of staff families, it may be that they will need to revert to packed lunches for a while.  We obviously hope that this will not be the case, but it is better to be prepared.

We have sent out a variety of letters this week.  Please check to make sure you have received them all and replied if necessary.

Harvest Festival

This year, more than ever, our harvest gifts will make a difference.  We are inviting the children to bring in dried, packet or tinned goods on Friday 25th September which they will take to church so Rev Lucy can create a harvest display.  This will form part of our virtual Harvest Festival on Thursday 1st October (more details next week).  The food will then be passed to the Bicester Foodbank for distribution to families in need.

A message from The Friends of Dr South’s

We will once again be running the 100 Club for this academic year.  This is where we sell numbers for £10 each which entitles you to enter 10 draws through the academic year with a chance to win a top prize of £25 each month whilst helping to raise much needed extra funds for the school.  We are very limited in fundraising opportunities at the moment and so it would be great if you would consider buying a number for the year.  If you are interested please fill in the attached form or contact Nicole (mother of Lily Y6 and Grace Y3).

There is also a letter from the Friends detailing how to stay in contact with other parents.

This week we congratulated:

Willow Class: Bruna, for settling in beautifully to school;

Ash Class: Jackson, for always being ready to learn and for completing all tasks given to him; Darcey, for listening to instructions well and helping the new Year Ones to settle in;

Oak Class: Alex, for fantastic focus and effort all week; Sammy, for enthusiasm and effort in all lessons;

Beech Class: Joseph, for showing a positive attitude in all lessons; Zach, for great work on decimals in maths;

Cookery: Annabel, for being superbly organised and keeping her work area clean and tidy.

Our Christian Value this term is Responsibility.  Ask your child about following rules to keep yourself safe.
