There are four mixed-age classes in our school, and these are named after trees.

  • Willow Class is our Nursery and Reception (F1) class.
  • Ash Class contains our Key Stage One children in Years 1 and 2.
  • Oak Class is where our Year 3 and 4 (Lower Key Stage Two) children study.
  • Beech Class houses our Years 5 and 6 children (Upper Key Stage Two).

One of the great joys of a small school is the fact that we have two year groups in each class. Sometimes people wonder how this is managed and have concerns about whether the children repeat work.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The school follows a rolling two-year programme and the work is varied each year.  Although the children remain in the same classroom, they do not repeat work – on the contrary, having a wider age and ability range means that the work is more carefully planned to be closely matched to their abilities.  If you have any questions about how mixed-age teaching works, please ask one of the teachers.
