Newsletter 5th October 2018

Dear parents and carers,

You may have seen in the news that there is a nationwide shortage of Epipens.  The current recommendation is that existing pens can still be used but may be less effective than they might have been.  We have several children in school who have severe allergies to nut products – please be extra careful over the next few months not to send any products which may contain nuts into school.  This includes things like Nutella, seed cereal bars and obviously anything peanut based.

Oak Class Charity Event

Do come and support the children in Oak Class at their event next Friday at 3.00pm.  Each class over the year has a chance to raise money for a charity they have voted for.  Oak Class has chosen Make a Wish.

Supper Recital

Thank you to those who were able to support this by performing, preparing, serving, clearing or buying tickets.  We raised approximately £600 once all these had been taken into account.  Particular thanks to Kathleen for being chef for the evening – a real treat for us all.

100 Club

This is a reminder that we have numbers for sale for the 100 Club.  This is a new academic year and so if you have held numbers previously you need to re-purchase them in order to stay in the draws.  As with previous years the numbers are £10 each for the whole year and this means that if you will be entered into each of the 10 draws for the academic year.  If we manage to sell all 100 numbers it means that the Sparkle Fund receives £50 per month over the academic year to help fund enrichment for all our children (art resources, additional books etc) and the prizes for number holders are as follows: 1st Prize £25; 2nd Prize £15; 3rd Prize £10.  If you would like a chance to win from the first draw on 18th October, then please contact Nicole Tucker (Lily Y4/Grace Y1).

Science Week

This popular event is coming up soon and will be the week beginning 29th October (the week after half term).  We will be running many exciting events across the school and would love it if parents working in any areas of science (eg medicine, research, animal work, space exploration) could come and talk about what they do.  Talk to your child’s teacher if you are able to help in this way.  We will also be running after school clubs every day except Wednesday.  If your child would like to take part, please contact the office (e-mail is fine) with possible days in order of preference.  There will be no charge for these, but we will be asking for donations at the end of each session to cover the costs of materials.  Decisions on days will be made on Monday 15th October and communicated before the holiday.

Big Bike Ride – Sunday 12th May 2019

You may have seen this mentioned last week. Do put the date in your diaries and support it in some way.  There is a current need for somebody to co-ordinate publicity, and nearer the time there will be vacancies for marshals, caterers, drivers…… and, of course, cyclists!  Further details from Dan ([email protected] ) or Sophie ([email protected]).

This week we congratulated:
